Daimon Udon Noodle Restaurant

Nestled within a quaint corner of the city, this small husband and wife run udon noodle restaurant offers a delightful escape from the bustling streets and transports you to the heart of Japanese culinary traditions. With its simple yet inviting ambiance, the restaurant exudes a sense of warmth and authenticity that sets the stage for a memorable dining experience.

Upon entering the restaurant, the aroma of simmering broth and freshly cooked noodles wafts through the air, instantly stimulating the appetite. The interior, adorned with traditional Japanese decor and wooden furnishings, creates a serene atmosphere that promotes relaxation and enjoyment. There is a mix of traditional tatami, tables/chairs, or counter seating available.

The menu showcases a modest selection of udon noodle dishes, each crafted with precision and care. Whether you are a devout noodle enthusiast or a novice seeking to explore new flavors, this restaurant caters to all palates. The recipes have been handed down from generation to generation since the restaurant first opened in 1927. They use alkaline ionized water that is collected daily from the Manai Shrine; naturally grown Kombu from Rishiri Island; the dashi (soup) contains seaweed, shrimp, crab and dried anchovies - they use Hokkaido dried anchovies, white/silver not red, so the dashi stays clear; domestically produced sirloin; and Koshihikari rice which is organically cultivated locally in the Tango area.

The service at the restaurant deserves special mention. The husband and wife team, clad in traditional attire, greet guests with genuine warmth and provide attentive and efficient service throughout the meal. They are patient with us non-Japanese speaking guests, and explain the various menu options. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to make recommendations further enhances the overall dining experience, ensuring that each guest feels well taken care of.

Portion sizes are generous, making it ideal for sharing with friends or family. Additionally, the affordability of the dishes allows visitors to indulge without breaking the bank. Whether you opt for a simple bowl of noodles or decide to explore the array of side dishes and appetizers on offer, you can be assured of great value for your money.
