Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate

Miyazu

Nestled in the scenic beauty of Kyoto, Japan, Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate stands as a serene haven for travelers seeking comfort, convenience, and an authentic Japanese experience. With its impeccable blend of modern amenities and traditional charm, this hotel is an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers.

Situated in the picturesque Amanohashidate region, known for its breathtaking sandbar bridge that seems to connect the sky and the sea, Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate boasts an enviable location. Surrounded by natural beauty, the hotel provides a tranquil escape from the bustling city, while still offering easy access to Miyazu's vibrant attractions.

The hotel features a range of well-appointed rooms designed to cater to the needs of every guest. With a touch of minimalist elegance, the rooms at Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate provide a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration. Each room is equipped with modern amenities, including comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet access, and spacious bathrooms. The carefully curated decor incorporates elements of Japanese design, offering a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary style.

While the Fairfield follows the brand’s signature 'Michi-no-Eki' concept and does not feature an on-site restaurant, it is perfectly positioned to encourage local exploration. On check-in the staff provided a link to their website that showcase the numerous local restaurants and bars. As many traditional restaurants in Miyazu remain cash-based, travelers will find the proximity of several local ATMs particularly useful.

The Fairfield does, however, have a nice common room, and a 'Marketplace' where you can purchase from a limited range of food and beverage options. The common room includes a small kitchen that includes a grill oven, microwave, free coffee dispenser, ice machine and tea station. Conveniently located directly across the street is the Mipple department store, a fantastic resource for fresh, locally prepared Japanese meals and groceries to enjoy back at the hotel.

Gateway to the Wonders of Miyazu and Amanohashidate

Staying at the Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate puts you in the perfect position to explore Japan’s "bridge to heaven" and the historical charm of Miyazu. A short, self-guided walking tour of the streets of Miyazu begins right at your doorstep, where you can admire traditional architecture and the city's unique maritime heritage. From the town center, a brisk 20-minute walk or a quick taxi ride leads you to the hidden gem of Kanabiki Falls. As one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls, it offers a refreshing natural escape with its cascading twin streams and tranquil forest setting, providing a peaceful contrast to the coastal sights.

To experience the legendary sandbar itself, the hotel offers seamless access to the various vantage points and transport hubs of Amanohashidate. You can stroll or cycle across the pine-clad sandbar or head to the Ichinomiya Amanohashidate Ferry terminal for a scenic boat ride across the bay. The ferry connects the southern and northern shores, making it easy to visit Amanohashidate Kasamatsu Park on the north side. Here, you can try the famous "matanozoki" (viewing through your legs) to see the sandbar appearing as a dragon rising to the sky, or simply enjoy the expansive panoramic views of the Kyoto coastline.

For the most iconic bird's-eye view, Amanohashidate Viewland is located just a short distance from the hotel near the Amanohashidate train station. Accessible by a fun chairlift or monorail, this southern viewpoint provides the classic "Flying Dragon" perspective of the 3.6-kilometer sandbar. Whether you are catching the ferry to explore the northern temples, riding the lift to Viewland, or wandering through the historic temple district near the Rotating Bridge, the centralized location of the hotel ensures that all of Miyazu’s primary cultural and natural landmarks are reachable within minutes.

Local Dining Near the Hotel

Finding a great meal in Miyazu is remarkably easy, with several distinct options just a short walk from the Fairfield. For an authentic and lively experience, Miyazu Fisherman Town Totomato is a must-visit. This seafood hub, located right on the water, features a variety of stalls and restaurants where you can enjoy the "catch of the day" prepared as fresh sushi, sashimi, or grilled specialties. Just a few steps away, you’ll find Pier Jolly, a local favorite known for its more casual, Western-influenced menu and relaxing views of the marina—perfect for a light lunch or a coffee break while watching the boats.

If you are looking for traditional Japanese comfort food, Daimon Udon Noodle Restaurant is highly recommended for its hand-crafted noodles and rich, flavorful broths that provide a warm welcome after a day of sightseeing. For those visiting the southern end of the sandbar, Hashidate Daimaru offers a large, bustling dining atmosphere with a focus on regional Kyoto specialties and seafood sets. Because these establishments often maintain traditional Japanese business hours, it is always a good idea to check their closing times before heading out for the evening.
